"Fascinating, far from easy parade brilliantly executed by top young team" - TheArtsDesk
We had an incredible evening kicking off Proms at St Jude's 2024, where we celebrated our sixth year at this fantastic festival. We were delighted to be joined by Martin James Bartlett in our American celebration features the work of Twentieth Century composers from the USA.
Rehearsals kicked off on Friday morning in Kensal Green with the full orchestra before moving to St Jude's church on Saturday afternoon.
Our concert then began with a fanfare by 11-year-old Isabella Paulmichi, joint winner with Leo Sellis of the annual Fantastic Fanfare competition.
Our programme showcased the rich and diverse tapestry of American music, highlighting the innovative and bold spirit of Twentieth Century composers. From the vibrant rhythms of George Gershwin to the evocative harmonies of Aaron Copland, the evening was a journey through the heart of America's musical landscape. Martin James Bartlett’s virtuosic performance brought a special magic to the evening, captivating the audience with his technical prowess and expressive playing.
We're also delighted to be bringing our annual Schools' Concert at Proms at St Jude's again this year.
Bringing together almost 400 children from 10 schools in North London, the concert features John Ashton Thomas' Chocolate, led by DaCapo teacher Will Dollard.
Proms at St Jude's takes singing workshops into schools, giving students the opportunity to learn the repertoire in advance of the festival. The concert day is always a fantastic coming together of young people, joined by Fantasia's musicians.
This event gives every child a chance to shine, making it a top-quality musical experience cherished by both the schools and Fantasia Orchestra. We're really looking forward to it!
As we reflect on the success of the opening night, we are filled with excitement for the rest of Proms at St Jude's 2024. This festival continues to be a highlight of our musical calendar, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share our passion for music with such a wonderful audience.
